Isle d'Islande

Mallet was a French geographer who wrote a five volume work called Description de l'univers. The book contains one separate map of Iceland. At the top of the map we see the coast of Greenland and in the sea there is a lot of ships and whales. Iceland is, therefore, smaller than we might expect. On the map we see that the Western Fiords are rather strange. The shape of the country is of Dutch origin but with elements taken from older maps.
