Pontanus' copy of Willem Barents map of the polar region from his Rerum et Urbis Amstelodamensium Historia. Barents was one of the most famous Dutch explorers but it is not known whether the map is actually by him and it has been attributed to various others. When it comes to Iceland the author seems to have used Ortelius's map as a basis, although hardly directly. The place-names do not seem to have been chosen based on local knowledge or knowledge of the country, and what is included and what is omitted is quite random. All of this is similar to what was most common about Iceland in these years.
Pontanus' edition of the map is somewhat reduced but otherwise accurate.
