Bellin made maps for many travel accounts but he worked for the most part of his life making nautical charts under the auspices of the French naval authorities. It is therefore not surprising that the shape of Iceland on this map is of the type that was common on many sea charts. One copy of the map has a different version of Iceland that could indicate influence from the Knoff map. It must then have been published considerably later than 1751 which is printed on the map.
