The atlas, Theatrum orbis terrarum, by Ortelius was a large book and rather expensive. So it was not very long before someone got an idea to make it more accessible to the public by reducing the maps. This new version of the collection was published in many languages. Here we see a scaled down version of Ortelius' map of the north from some edition of the book. Because of the change in size nearly all the place-names have been removed.
