Johann Baptist Homann was a German cartographer and publisher. In 1702 he founded his own publishing house that was the beginning of the company Homann Heirs which became one of the leading cartographic firms in Europe in the 18th century. In 1761 it published a special map of Iceland based on the maps of Thomas Knoff.
Homann‘s maps are known for their details and distinct colouring. Iceland on the map is similar to the Nicolas Sanson type and the place names are derived from Joris Carolus.
