    "@value" : "During the 19th century French ships were frequent visitors on the fishing grounds around Iceland. The French, like the Danes, needed reliable charts of the coast of Iceland. Therefore it was not surprising that the naval authorities in France should publish copies of the new coastal charts as soon as they came out. The French version dates from the year 1822 to 1836. It is in the same scale as the Danish charts and very similar in most respects. The maps made in France were only intended for seafarers and therefore they are not as decorative as the originals."

    "@value" : "Á 19. öld stunduðu Frakkar miklar þilskipaveiðar við Ísland. Þeim var því óhjákvæmilegt að hafa í höndum kort af ströndinni og hafinu umhverfis landið. Þegar afrakstur mælinganna hér á landi í byrjun aldarinnar kom út sem safn strandkorta brugðu þeir skjótt við og gerðu eftirmyndir þeirra. Þær komu síðan út á árunum 1822-1836.<br />Kortin eru í sama mælikvarða og frumútgáfan eða 1:250.000. Ströndin er allnákvæm eftirmynd og örnefni komast flest til skila. Nokkrar breyttar dýptartölur benda til staðkynna franskra fiskimanna. Frönsku eftirmyndirnar voru ætlaðar sjómönnum einum og er flestu sleppt sem ekki kom þeim að beinum notum. Eru því allar skreytingar og myndir úr íslenskri náttúru og mannlífi horfnar."
