Barents was one of the most famous Dutch explorers but it is not known whether the map is actually by him and it has been attributed to various others. When it comes to Iceland the author seems to have used Ortelius's map as a basis, although hardly directly. The place-names do not seem to have been chosen based on local knowledge or knowledge of the country, and what is included and what is omitted is quite random. All of this is similar to what was most common about Iceland in these years.<br>\r\nDe Bry's edition of the map is somewhat reduced but otherwise accurate.\r\n"

    "@value" : "Einn af nafnkunnustu sæförum Hollendinga um þessar mundir var Willem Barents. Honum er jafnan eignað kort af Norðurvegum sem gefið var út eftir lát hans undir lok 16. aldar. Frumprentun kortsins er í latnesku útgáfunni af ferðasögu Johannesar Linschotens. Ekki er vitað hvort kortið er í raun og veru eftir Barents og hefur það verið eignað ýmsum öðrum.<br>\r\nHnattstaða Íslands á kortinu er svipuð og hjá Orteliusi, enda virðist höfundurinn hafa haft kort hans að undirstöðu, þó varla að beinu handsali. Þegar kemur á þær slóðir hefur höfundurinn líklega fremur farið eftir Íslandskorti Lucasar Janszoonar Waghenaers. Örnefnin virðast ekki valin af staðkynnum eða þekkingu á landinu og býsna tilviljunarkennt hvað tekið er með og hverju sleppt. Allt er þetta með svipuðum hætti og tíðast var um Ísland á þessum árum.<br>\r\nKortið eða eftirmyndir þess voru síðan birtar í ýmsum ritum næstu árin en oftast með einhverjum breytingum, t. a. m. hjá Theodore de Bry í Dritter Theil Indiae Orientalis. Eftirmynd De Bry er dálítið minnkuð en að öðru leyti allnákvæm."
