    "@value" : "It was not only the Dutch who based their work on that of Joris Carolus. The chief pioneer of cartography in France, Nicolas Sanson, made a separate map of Iceland. On the map it says that it was made after the map of Andreas Velleius (i. e. Abraham Ortelius) and Joris Carolus, with the implication, moreover, that other sources have been employed. But Sanson has not profited very much from these sources, since the map is to all intents and purposes nothing more than a reduced copy of Carolus', with some parts left out."

    "@value" : "Nicolas Sanson de Abbeville, eins og hann hét fullu nafni, lagði grunninn að blómaskeiði franskrar kortagerðar á síðari hluta 17. aldar. Kort Sansons sjálfs þykja í rauninni ekkert afbragð og það var ekki fyrr en í höndum arftaka hans að þau tóku þeim breytingum sem leiddu franska kortagerð til öndvegis. Merkast af því sem liggur eftir Sanson hvað Ísland snertir er þetta sérkort af landinu árfært 1667 (kortið var prentað oftar en einu sinni, t. d. árið 1698). Á titilfeldi þess segir að það sé gert eftir Íslandskortum Anders Sørensen Vedel (Andreas Velleius); þ. e. a. s. Abrahams Orteliusar en kort hans var löngum kennt við Vedel, og Jorisar Carolusar. Sanson hefur sótt talsvert meira til Carolusar en Orteliusar, þ. á m. lögun landsins og flest örnefni. Það sem hefur verið tekið frá Orteliusi er aðallega frábrugðnar nafnmyndir hans og er þeim skipað við hlið sömu nafna Carolusar. Ýmsum efnisþáttum á korti Carolusar er sleppt enda hefur það verið minnkað um nær helming."
