Landið er í meginatriðum dregið eftir kortinu úr Íslandslýsingu Niels Horrebow sem er aftur á móti eftir korti Thomasar Knoff. Ekkert bendir til þess að Bellin hafi þekkt hina betri útgáfu Knoffs-kortsins á vegum Homanns-erfingja frá 1761. Auk aðalheimildarinnar hefur Bellin ýmislegt frá hollenskum sjókortum eins og t. d. dýptartölur. En strandlínur, örnefni og mest annað er sótt til Horrebows. Sum örnefnanna eru mjög afbökuð eins og Kieblewias (Keflavík) og Paleur Fiords (Patreksfjörður). Það má líklega rekja til frönsku útgáfunnar á bók Horrebows en Bellin virðist hafa notað hana.
