Iceland appears on many nautical charts made by the Dutch in the 17th and 18th centuries. The shape of the country is much the same on many of the maps, it is based on bishop Gudbrandur Thorláksson but considerably different from other maps of that origin.
Pieter Goos bought the plates for De Lichtende Columne, ofte Zee-Spiegel of Theunis Jacobszoon (Lootsman) and continued to publish the collection. This map is one of the charts in the book. Place-names are about 30 and most of them come from Joris Carolus. The Western Fiords are far from the truth, we can see that two large peninsulas have begun to form. On later maps they become more prominent, one pointing west and the other north.
