The map is painted by Benedikt Gröndal but the surveyor is Sveinn Sveinsson. He made this map for the city for fire insurance purposes.
Benedikt Gröndal (1826-1907) was a teacher and author, studied natural history and Nordic studies in Copenhagen and later taught at the Latin school in Reykjavík, as well as writing textbooks on natural history.
