L'Islande

Author:
Pierre Duval
Country:
Netherlands
Publication year:
1731

Pierre Duval was son-in-law and disciple of Nicolas Sanson, the chief pioneer of cartography in France. He published a few map collections and also made separate maps that appeared in various travel accounts and other books of that kind.
In 1663 Isaac de la Peyrére wrote a short description of Iceland, Relation de l'Islande, which was accompanied by a separate map of Iceland by Pierre Duval. The map is a copy of the one by Joris Carolus but with various novelties, apparently based on material in the book itself. La Peyrére's book later became part of a collection of accounts of voyages to the north, Recueil de voyages au nord. This map is from a publication of that book in 1731.
