Insula Islandia

Pierre Duval
Publication year:
1700 (about)
Pierre Duval was son-in-law and disciple of Nicolas Sanson, the chief pioneer of cartography in France. He published a few map collections and also made separate maps that appeared in various travel accounts and other books of that kind.
In 1663 Isaac de la Peyrére wrote a short description of Iceland, Relation de l'Islande, which was accompanied by a separate map of Iceland by Pierre Duval. The map is a copy of the one by Joris Carolus but with various novelties, apparently based on material in the book itself.
